About

I was born in Devon - moved to Salisbury and then on to Surrey where I currently live.

My love of art was I felt in my genes as my grandmother was a watercolourist, but it wasn't until my third child started school that I decided to do something about it and phoned our local Adult Education Centre. I was told that the art class was full and asked if I wanted to go on a waiting list. I knew that if I didn't say “yes” I wouldn't have the courage to phone up again - and that's when my love of painting began.

I have been very fortunate in having very good tutors - the first who was happy to teach a complete novice - and even sent me a list of what I needed to get!

Wanting to explore different techniques was the prompt to attend a number of art courses including one in Italy and another in America which I feel were pivotal. Colour and light in a painting is important to me, but I also love the way that the same painting can say very different things to different people - it makes it personal to them - their story becomes woven into the painting.

I have been painting now for over 30 years - I'm continually wanting to improve, to try new things - for me it's noticing that sparkle of light on a tree, the colour in a drop of rain that catches the light, the fleeting emotion in a face - they all tell a story - and my hope is to try and tell it.
